As a member of PETA I am absolutely thrilled being able to share this news with you! It is confirmed now that GAP joined Spanish fashion chain INDITEX (Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Pull&Bear, UTERQUE, Zara HOME), Topshop, New Look, ASOS and H&M and helt orders and stopped selling angora products (which mainly are jumpers and gloves or hats). It’s been a never ending battle for PETA which sent millions of petitions, made a heartbreaking video about suffering rabbits and inhumane practices in China. Organisation called on all these shops to stop animal abuse and ban the wool from their stores. Over 280 000 of Zara’s customers signed a petition. This is the statement INDITEX has posted on its website:
“Inditex completely agrees with the complaint against the maltreatment of angora rabbits. From its position of Zero Tolerance against cruelty to animals, Inditex obliges its suppliers to follow the recommendations of the different organizations in defense of the animals, to which Inditex keeps constant contact. Besides, the farms must have facilities to guarantee decent life conditions for the animals.
After the last complaints, Inditex has reinforced this message to all its suppliers. Inditex is carrying out visits to these farms and putting in place an independent certification process of all angora wool farms in its supply chain to confirm the compliance with Inditex requirements. With this regard, Inditex will not place any further order with any supplier for products containing angora wool until each relevant facility has been previously inspected again and the findings reviewed, following the Inditex Audit protocol.”
According to PETA’s website, also “PVH Corp.—the parent company of Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and other brands—has confirmed that it’s pulling from its shelves and banning any products made with angora.”
H&M went even further and “permanently end production of angora…effective immediately.” So far its over 30 big companies and high street brands that responded to PETA’s action. Victory for animals. And as much as I love animals, hate fur, support PETA and try to stay updated – I didn’t know that. So promised to myself to never buy any angora wool products and never ever promote them on my blog. I just think that whether you are an animals lover or not, you do not have a right to be an ignorant. Many people just don’t really care about this kind of stuff, justify themselves, thinking “there is so many tragedies happening every day, poverty, people die every minute and second, why would I care about animals?” I am asking: WHY NOT? Even if you don’t feel like joining PETA or volunteering for a dog shelter you can still do something good for this world apart from recycling and not farting in public. Just download an application (which I – step by step – successfully managed to download on my friends and family phones) PETA on your Android or Iphone, it takes less than 2 minutes. All you have to do is to confirm your email address and personal details ONCE and then every day PETA will sign and send petitions on your behalf. Or just go to http://www.peta.org/action/get-active-online/ and help us! Easy-peasy.
I am sure your dog will be proud of you. Go and kiss his paw from me. x m
